Jazz mags

Nothin really to report in the last week.heres a snazzy little shindig logo i banged out on sunday .hmmm.... Me and the shinduggies went out in letterkenny for the first time in ages last friday. The fubar started that thing where ya wear a little armband to say whether or not youre up for the ride.odd things indeed.
Robs home next week I believe.
Christmas soon too.
Oh and maybe the shindig nights mix finally.

Forty two minutes of fu*k

Ah yes, some more shindig output. Me, Tuggers and Brian mc Dev decided to create a mix cd series in the vein of those late night tales/fabric/back to mine/journeys by dj...etc type things.
So here it is, the first installment of shindig nights.
It's forty two minutes as the title suggests and it's a darn well large download but I believe it to be well worth setting any party "off".
Expect further volumes from Tuggers, Brian and possibly the rest of the shindig establishment.

er... update of sorts, anybody able to direct me to me a site that will host the file, its two big for all them wee host sites so i guess i mite have to break the mix in two.

Reaffirmation

Just because ol' Messy hasn't posted anything here in a while doesn't mean he's any less dedicated to the Shindig cause. I've just been suffering from creative brewer's droop.

Christmas will yield its merry share of joy from my direction towards that of Shindig and its constituent consumers.

Just sayin is all.

After the artwork

Alright! Busy week! As promised, music by me for personal download by your good selves. MP3s of my new single, A Kick Up The Hole. (Artwork here.)

(You'll also note you can just right-click and 'Save As' - we got ourselves a bit of webspace. Thanks to Gooch for the heads-up on that one...)

01: A Kick Up The Hole

02: Johnny Ballbags

03: Easier Said Than Bummed

04: Raining Again

If you only get one, I'd pick Raining Again, although they're all fairly different. Enjoy, and gimme some feedback!

Now for some real news

Good news everyone! Robert T. Whoriskey is alive and well. It's been yonks since we've heard from the thran cunt, so it was a joy to open up gmail and have a lovely long e-mail from him waiting... (Nice pic of Norwich there - although i did put 'Norwich is rubbish' in the search engine.)

Anyway, here's some words that came right out of the man's mouth and/or fingers:

hey crown princes of shin and shuvel, first of all i must apologise for my long silence for i have had many things on my plate but also i am a diagnosed technophobic ballbag who only recently began to use his phone. Anyhoo i will begin this thinly desguised apology with a rather over indulgent update on my activitys in sasanach(think thats how spell it, no grade in pass irish), first of all things are quite good havent had my heart broken and i still havent got the enevitible bollocking from my tutors for my obvious alcoholism and racist jokes (once my tutor asked me what my work was like last year and i told him that i dident do that much last year, i just drank)

ive wrote a few things i think you gays might like, one
really nice harmonic thingy wrote while i couldent use my fingers much and a nice tapping thingy that might sound good on keyboards il probably write loads more stuff when i get home. im wet thinking about hearing the new stuff from angelo and bad boat (tuggers i only listen to the super 8kids album more than your last ep its one of my most played on itunes and every time i listen to it i feel afraid of you and your villainous brain) o yeah i put "staish"into itunes and requested track names ant they came up they even gave genre. When i think of you gays (Diarmuid Daniel and Connor ect) back home my wee heart swells with pride because i know your all pure genius' who make letterkenny seem like the epicentre of good irish music/music and not the center of the donegal cattle trade.

Recently ive been reading and
re-reading your blogs, very very funny, ive showed my friends here, they dont really get it but as stephen hawkins once wrote "who gives a fuck about stupid people anyway" feel free to stick some of this e mail up there if you want or even give people an update of my adventures

oh yeah got a job the other
day in a pub, and got an offer of a job illustrating for this company that a friend of mine from my time in limavady set up in nottingham...any way give us an update on the craic with use and yer adventures. recently i bought the alias and ehren album which is one of the nicest thing that was ever in my ear, pure snowey beautifulness, o and ive also been listening to earth, four tet and the ex-models who i seen recently and it was the best gig ive seen since watching this drunk guy fall over and land on the back of his head outside milan last year, made a sound like bonk, how is every one back home anyway lots of glove hope this finds you all well, say hi to your mums for me. taigs out ....bye.

lots of glove to you too rob :)

Before the music...

...I present the amateurish artwork for my neu single, A Kick Up The Hole. This way, you'll be one step ahead when it comes time to download that shit.

(It also means you can enjoy the titles before the songs come along and disappoint. That said, I'm not un-proud of my newest works, not un-proud...)

Music follows later this week hopefully.

P.S. I hope you like my new ska direction.

Mooooooooooooooooooooon River.

Well, me Laura and Brian attended Four tet agus Kid Koala and Just as expected, Fantastic.
I really didn't expect much from kid koala cause the one album I have of his, "carpal tunnel syndrome" is an exercise in dickin around with records that, overall, is pretty underwhelming.
But by fuck he tore shit up, highlights included a trumpet solo done entirely with scratching and him playing the notes in moon river using the stylus.
Four tet began by pishin around with loads of funny little sounds that sounded like he was logging on to the internet and then launched into the first cut off everything ecstatic.
Downright absolute highlight of the entire evening had to be "smile around the face" which everyone flipped out for. More like bang in your face.
What I didnt expect was a kind of mash up after that, things got crazy.
Great evening all round then.

Lookin after jesus....

Belle and sebastain and Mogwai are also appearing in January.Lovely.
Peace to B-koz, last thursday night was off many the chain.
Oh, and also I still cant express enuf how much I hate those fucking plastic wristband thingys,
some cunts round here are still wearing them.

Uh bega Um Ba

My lecture was cancelled today.
Again im doing nothing all day it seems.
So here's another scan from my sketch book. Kinda remind's me of that Andrew W.k's guide to shoe laces I made Declan all those moon's ago.
Bizare-ly Enuf thats two Andrew W.k mentions on the blog this week.

I hope I can post something actually interesting again soon.

Tuesday, November 01, 2005

Go on, give us a snare rush.

Just a quick brogue of news before I go cinemawards.
By Zaphf, Buck 65 was off the chain the other night.
The Cage album "hell's winter" is incredible (maybe I'll put a track up on slice o' class).
Halloween was enjoyable, me as Andrew W.K , Stephen as some form of Trucker, Brian as a raging fag and most notably Tuggers as a minstrel.
Shindigwise Kick Acid started his new album called "Dunion's full of shit".

Newsfelch

There is a new Messy Angelo EP available from Shindig Records as of right now! CHECK IT OUT!

New never before heard material! Sexy possible artwork! Secret track featuring the sound of two dudes humping! It's worth the price (free). Also there is a possible Shindig music-y blogsite starting, the address being http://www.slice-o-class.blogspot.com ... give it a whirl. You might find some tunes you'd like. It'll feature regular posts of tracks chosen by Shindig artists for you, the public.

Think sexy. Think Shindig.

Strongmen of the World, Unite!

Which was the original title of the track I remixed for Tugboat. Peruse it with this link.

That's just a portion of an ongoing effort on our part to deconstruct and reconstruct some of Shindig's finer moments over the last few years (man, it's been at least three years since we started recording the now-out-of-print Chronic Jump Boy EP... hard to believe).

If this is the treats we're giving the public now, imagine what fine and lavish gifts we'll bestow upon them come the Shindig 25th anniversary.

One last piece of news, a new supergroup is about to enter the Shindig fold, that group being We Build Smiles, a pairing of myself (Messy A) and Declan of studying music in Bath fame. We haven't started recording anything yet, but rest assured this isn't going to be another Bunnyf***er deal where we don't actually record anything despite our vast hype and potential domination of the marketplace.

Leverage manbeast.

I command all of you to download track 13 off Sequel.

Monday, October 24, 2005

It doesn't matter where you go...

....it's a remix of getting there (arf!)

I put my remixing boots on and got bizzay this weekend....so to speak.

JOY WORLD CORPORATION - Richard Linklater (Tugboat Willy Remake)

MESSY ANGELO - Getting There (Tugboat Willy's Wrong Way Round Remix)

That version of Richard Linklater had been in the pipeline for a few months but an encouraging e-mail from Diarmaid helped push it forward...Meanwhile, it's odd how things have worked out after just a few months, so Getting There seemed perfect for a rejiggle...

Keep it foolish, yeah?

Ruff love

Hello my little blogites.
God I hate this course.

Just as Tuggers told, the film we are making is a documentry about my granpa and his recently published book. Bit of diversity in the old Shindig cannon afterall then.
Plus-Hey,,,,, expect more artwork from me now that im actually makin more.
Gnarls Barkley is gonna be dope.
Oh, and American dad was the biggest feast of Cleveland steamer I ever pressed my eyes against.
Hmmmmmm....... Lots of lovely remixes, bootlegs and rarities Coming soon.

Film.

Some quick news about the new film me and Tugboat are making.
I think it might be called "Brighter Days".
I also think we start filming this weekend.

DOWNLOAD THREE

okay-this be the final part of the album download, enjoy "Sequel" in all its sequential glory.

Track 8 "Staircase"

Track 9 "Autopiliot"

Track 10 "Tranny Ball"

Track 11 "Less than hilarious"

Track 12 "Jittabug"

Track 13 "Any Man"

Official Album Credits: All sounds created by tugboat willy and dano, except:
Fionn robinson- guitar on tracks 2,6 and 7.
Robert Turlough Whorisky- guitar and effects on track 8.
Laura- voice on track 12.

Samples:Track one features sound recordings from various television programmes I recorded one sunday. Track two features a vocal sample from a kids record about the weather and a John coletrane record at the end which I cant remember the name of right now.
The accoustic guitar loop from track 6 was lifted from a Godzilla vs. Hedorah video I found in my room. The drums at the end were cut up like shit from tracks from a Trojan sampler.
The "evil" vocal bit from 40 bangs was sampled from a video game which im not going to tell you what it is. ha. Some Shindig Merch to the first person who can tell me what game.
Jittabug samples our apperance on television.
Every other sound on the album was created by Tugboat and Dano's bare hands (which held instruments).

Dano did the artwork along with input from tugboat.
Thanks to those whose deserve it.

Hey Tuggers, feel free to edit this shit if i left anything out.

And so ends another chapter of the Super Eight Kids.

Mingus Dew

I'm contributing! Anyway, I've been invited to be a contributor as I am one of Shindig's many hot properties, and as such I'll add something useful to the site whenever I can ... but if I can't I'll just spout off random oul shite, like now. Actually, I'll link up a Shindig mp3 to justify the post.

Anyway, it's called White Rum (Dead Air Ressurection Mix) and it's a brief little remix of a song that, due to circumstances beyond my control, no longer exists but was going to feature on the new Messy Angelo album. It's a collaboration between the studio-hyperactive Dano and myself, bask in the heat generated by it's beats by downloading it.

Looking forward to selling out the Shindig philosophy and products like an unmitigated whore. Catch all y'all later.

Gin rummy.

I did come over to the library here to upload the rest of the album but, fuddugers couldnt be arsed right now. So I thought in the spirit of these hip new blog nanosites- i'd entertain you all with whats entertaining me.

First up Tuggers has this idea to do a shindig chart thingy whereby we tell youse-uns all of the stuff thats currently filling the void in our quite fullfilling young lives (kinda like what im writing now or what those shite fashion magazines do where they say whats hot or not, except not quite as rubbish as that). so he says we'll probably do that every monday. Sounds queer as hell, but i'll go along with it anyway.

Anyways I picked up the new Arab strap album today, "the last romance", which im currently listening to, and it's utterly fantastic. I know its early to call from first listen, but its right up there with philophobia.
Also the new set from Boards of Canada's out today, along with dangerdoom.
But im sure all you little young'uns have got them all downloaded yonks ago from some file sharing business. you wouldnt steal a car now, would you.

Messy's got his own blog up.much more entertaining than this shite.
http://generallymessy.blogspot.com

Plus, in case you people forgot, Daithi and Jerry Dammers ( of The Specials fame ) are throwing a little bash in the fubar this thursday. So unless Mr. Dammers has branched into hardcore- emo- trad, expect much skanking. Seriously though, if youre in Letterkenny this week it promises to be fantastic. I think its a fiver in.

Well, were all off to Topshop now. We got free tickets to some queer "lock-in" thing that will probably be filled with utter cunt ben shermanites, but hey,-free booze (which now that i think of it will probably be like a wee teespoon of piss weak budweezer).
goodnight poeple of earth.

Summer's nearly over...

...thank fuck. I can't deny it, there have been some special moments (usually involving 3 litre bottles of devil's bit [it's a...BIT SPECIAL!]) but in the main I was bored off my goddamn ass for 3 months or something ridiculous like that... Anyway, all the belfast crew seems to be shipping off next weekend so this week will merely be the empty formalities at the end of summer.

Highlights: making the Super 8 Kids album (mp3s really soon, I swear!); getting old robert o'boberty on board for some spazz-pop frottage and top-notch mind-meldery, and afterwards partying with him; generally making music; hot new records; electric picnic; getting accepted to queen's; drinking a-plenty; and tv and lots of it.

Unhighlights: the absolute rubbishness of letterkenny; weekend after stupid weekend 'living it up' in this town's shitty nightspots; stuck at home with no job (not that that's such a bad thing) and nobody to listen to but my goddamn stupid brain rambling on about rubbish; and tv and too much of it.

Anyway, i'm talking shite...as i say, we'll be heading off to our new city next weekend, so things are gonna start kicking off from then on. MP3s, more sexy artwork from dano and excessive ramblings like this: expect it all. I can't wait.

Saturday, September 10, 2005

fannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn....e

Well news is slow on the Shindig front right now, but hold on to your britches cause we got plans, top secret big plans. Well kinda.
Anyways i think i might sink my teeth into creting a little mix album. Of what I dunno yet, but hey it's in the works and Im thinkin of postin it out to those interested.

Plus, Kick Acid started work on his new long player, watch this space-blindly.

Wednesday, September 07, 2005

ruff love

After a summer of mildy alright/awfull nights out, electric picnic just capped this summer off perfectly. Completely and utterly brilliant , it would take me hours to explain and im pure hungry for a sandwhich so i'll leave that up to urselfs.
Oh and a very special thanks to Diarmiad, how different and less entertaining the bus home would have been.

Monday, August 29, 2005

Phew, well B-koz called round today and we recorded and produced a track in two and half hours and christ-what a complete banger if I say so myself. I took the instrumental from a track that me, rob and tugboat wrote during our recent album a day attempt and B-koz dropped considerable english all over that shit. The guys got incredible potential and best of luck to him in his interview for music technology in Derry tomorrow.
Hopefully I can get this track out to youse in some form soon, cause as we all know, listening to music is alot more fun than reading about it.

Sunday, August 28, 2005

The 40 year old virgin is a fantastic movie.

It really, really is.
Anyways, me and B-koz are going into the studio again tomorrow (sounds flash that dont it).
What will happen?.
Fuck knows.

crikey, look at the size of that sheila.

Happy birthday to Tugboat who turned 20 yesterday-and holy shit what a night it was. proceedings kicked of at my house with a good old healthy booze up followed by a visit to the fubar and topped off with a visit to Emmet Tonner's house untill early enuff hours.
Thanks are also due to Emmet for playing host to another unforgetable party.

also me mammy told me that Daithi has a small feature on the super eight kids in this weeks paper again. As usual I will get a scan up when i get the paper and most of all cheers to Daithi.

Wednesday, August 17, 2005

Super.

As promised, heres the article from the people's press.Cheers to daithi.
Looks like we may have to drop copies into universal records afterall .
Alternatively, if you do wanna get hooked up with a copy of the album-just email me at dmg2002@hotmail.com or tugboat .

...since they lifted the traintracks.

Just a quick post to say word on the street is (well Laura told me) there's a scribe on the 'ol super eight kids in yesterdays donegal peoples press penned by Daithi.
I have yet to read it but ill be sure to put a scan up on the site when i do.

Update

So yeah, no time like the present for a quick look at all the goings-on in Shindig...

Super Eight Kids: Following the pretty big success of the Super Eight Kids' debut Staish the Shape of the Juck With the Yock last summer, myself + Dano went back to the drawing board this summer. We put the finishing touches to the more simply-titled Sequel just a few weeks ago. It's a bit of a departure, and to be honest we're pretty happy with where we're going. Some live events are in the pipeline.
Meanwhile, as Dano was saying, we've now got our man Rob on board for further mind-expanding adventures in sound, and our first bit of work last week was an (admittedly poor) effort at making a whole album in a day. We didn't upload them on the album-a-day site but we'll hopefully get the 3 resulting songs up here soon, along with a few from the new album as well...

Beesley: Another summer, another name change for Oddie Knocky (guitars, vocals), Messy Angelo (guitars, vocals), myself (bass, vocals) and Dano (drums, vocals). The single of Bitch! (I Still Want My Money Back) was recently unleashed on an unsuspecting - some would say uncaring - public, with tip-top remixes from the rest of the Shindig stable. A planned tour of Ireland never quite got past the "hey, that's a great idea!" stage, but we did partake in a number of gigs in the Letterkenny area, and word on the street indicates some hot live action going down at NUI Galway in September. Eyes peeled, y'all. And again, expect MP3s lickety-split...

Messy Angelo: The man whose sole aim is often simply to "hurt the listener" is doing his best again this summer, with an ear-splitting remix of the afore-mentioned Beesley tune distressing those in need of comfort, and a whole goddamn solo album (accompanied by an out-takes record!) on the way. His appearance also seems to be getting more ragged by the day.

B-Koz: After dropping rhymes on the first Super Eight Kids album last summer, a planned collaboration with DJ Dano was in the works for this year, but fresh shit is, as yet, unforthcoming. He is tinkering away by himself in the meantime. He plays us his shit at regular intervals, and is known to freestyle at the drop of a hat. The man's got rhymes coming out his eyeballs.

Tugboat Willy: I made a wee single myself earlier in the year called I Am Bored and since then I've been dicking about with loads of rubbish. Mainly it's been Super Eight Kids all summer though.

Kick Acid: That cheeky virus on DJ Dano's computer is up to no good again, recently garbling the words of Paul McCartney to shocking and/or hilarious effect, as part of a remix of Beesley's Bitch!
Meanwhile, a ten minute mini-album entitled Digital Bell-End Unintentionally Stops Traffic is full of sounds and beats and may sometime be released for the pleasure of the listening public.

Other Shindig artists are doing fuck-all.

Thran

Fans of the fantastic brain that is Robert T. Whoriskey will be excited and/or aroused that he has once again picked up his six stringed axe to drop english with myself and tugboat last week on an attempt to create an entire album over a 24 hour time frame.
We failed.
However, What we managed to produce out of these now legendary sessions was three tree-mendous new tracks.Kinda acid loungy and folkish and even a return to our original hip hop roots, the new tracks again show us getting bored of what we usually do and bascially fuggerin around.
Oh and Robert now officially joined the band.
woo.

shindig representing

not that anyone will view this in time ,
but shindig veteran and able bodied musician messy angelo will take to the wheels of steel (or rubbish compact disk playing mixers) for a dj set that will consist of most likely fantastic music such as shoegazing pop, electro indietronic, shoegazing hip hop, avant post bee bop boom bap tomtuggary and every thing in between (did i mention the shoegazing?).
he starts at a haon o' clock at the very mportant peoples room in the fubar- so get your cheap booze in while you can before the bum rush.

Sunday, August 14, 2005

ah yes

its sunday.
all is well.isnt this lovely.
hello tugboat.
oh-must be professional here.

Welcome
